NEW CAPTAIN AND VICE-CAPTAIN ANNOUNCED
Elgin City Football Club are pleased to confirm that Russell Dingwall has been appointed as the new club captain, with Jack Murray taking on the role of vice-captain.
The decision follows a period of transition within the playing group, with long-serving captain Matthew Cooper stepping back from the armband to concentrate fully on regaining full fitness and returning to first-team action after a long-term injury.
Speaking on the change, Matthew Cooper said:
“It’s been an honour to captain this club and lead such a committed group of players. After the injury setbacks I’ve had, I feel the best thing for both myself and the team is to focus entirely on getting back to full fitness and earning my place again on the pitch. Russell and Jack have both been great leaders within the group and I’ve no doubt they’ll do a fantastic job in their new roles.”
Manager Allan Hale added:
“Matthew has been a tremendous leader for this club over a long period of time, both on and off the pitch. His professionalism, influence, and example have been invaluable, but right now it’s important he focuses on his recovery and works his way back into the team. We’ll continue to lean on his experience and presence around the dressing room.”
“Russell is someone who leads naturally — through his consistency, standards, and the respect he commands among the squad. He has a great understanding of what it means to represent Elgin City and the way we want to go about our work. Jack complements that perfectly. He’s a winner, sets the tone in training, and is someone who embodies the commitment and togetherness we value so highly. Both will represent the club with real pride and determination.”
New club captain Russell Dingwall said:
“I’m extremely proud to be named captain of Elgin City. It’s a huge honour for me personally and something I’ll take great responsibility in. I’ve been at the club for several years now and it means a lot to lead a group of lads who care deeply about the club and what we’re trying to achieve. I want to thank the gaffer and the staff for their trust, and I’ll be giving everything to help drive standards and bring success to Elgin City.”
The club would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Matthew Cooper for his continued leadership and dedication, and to congratulate Russell Dingwall and Jack Murray on their new roles as captain and vice-captain of Elgin City FC.
