Wendy Laing

CHILD WELLBEING PROTECTION OFFICER
cpo@elgincityfc.co.uk
Wendy Laing is a native of Elgin and was brought up in South Lesmurdie, where she lived until she moved to New Elgin in 1990. She has lived in Elgin all her days, now living in the West End of Elgin.
She left school in 1985, after refusing to sit Higher examinations (ever the rebel!) and went straight to work as an office junior at the local Volkswagen Car Dealership. She married in 1992 and changed jobs soon after, moving to work in the local Job Centre. Here began a 19-year career with the Government. She started work as an admin assistant and gained many promotions over time. She was an Operations Manager in charge of all the Job Centres across Aberdeenshire, Moray, Orkney and Shetland before moving into District Roles within the North of Scotland where she was responsible for implementing any Welfare Reforms introduced by the Government. On leaving the Job Centre, she worked with NHS Grampian for a short time, before starting work with charities – including Chest, Heart & Stroke Scotland.
Wendy is now employed by Moray Food Plus as a Money Advice Support Worker.
With 2 children, many of Wendy’s earlier years were spent cheering on the sidelines of football games. When daughter, Mel returned to football and specifically became the captain of the newly formed Elgin City FC Women’s team Wendy found a passion for Borough Briggs. Having supported and helped the women’s team on an informal basis in their first season, she was delighted to be asked to become the Child Welfare Protection Officer for the club when Gordon Methven stepped down during the summer of 2025.
