Gordon Methven

PASTOR
Gordon was born in Dundee and brought up in Ford’s Lane just of the Perth Road until the family moved to the Ardler multis in the late 1960’s. On leaving school in 1976, he served an apprenticeship as a mechanical fitter at Carolina Port Power Station in Dundee and after serving his time got a job at Peterhead Power Station which was where my wife and I lived when we got married in 1982. In 1985 he joined Grampian Police, initially working in Aberdeen before transferring to Elgin in 1990. He was astonished on his first Saturday morning by being taken to Boroughbriggs to monitor the away supporters as they boarded their buses to travel to a game. He counted nine busloads which was an amazing support for a Highland League Club. He spent a further 20 years as a police officer in Elgin often visiting Boroughbriggs on match days, supposedly to check supporters were behaving but it was really to watch Elgin City and get his half time pie! He retired from the police in 2010. Away from the police he was also a community councillor in Elgin for several years and helped organise the Moray Community Awards. He is a deacon of Oasis Church in Elgin, part of Church of the Nations (COTN), where he received his spiritual training. He is currently employed as the Coordinator for Elgin Street Pastors and has great joy in seeing City supporters celebrating a victory on Saturday nights in the town centre. In 2019 he was delighted to be asked to become the club Chaplain and really enjoys helping the lads out at training and supporting them at home games.

The Tesco & post match raffles have been ring fenced and used for team travel now for a decade now. It proves whether it is £1 or £10 spent on these fundraisers it helps the club enormously. Thanks once again to everyone who supports these raffles.
