The Black and Whites got off to a poor start when Jack Leitch curled the ball home from inside the box inside two minutes. The EK captain added a second in the 21st minute with the Elgin defence looking exposed again. Tom Ritchie made two good saves to deny the visitors more goals before the break. Elgin got a lifeline when Lewis Hyde was brought down by Freddie Owens and Jack MacIver slotted the penalty kick past the keeper, who was booked for his challenge. Miko Virtanen also spurned a great chance to level as City looked more like themselves. Those misses came back to haunt Elgin when Nathan Flanagan made it 3-1 with a simple tap in and John Robertson rubbed salt in the wounds with a fourth.
