Home is where the heart is and for Miko Virtanen, Scotland is very much a home he has fallen in love with on and off the pitch.
Miko is relishing the challenge at Elgin.
The 26-year-old former Finland under-21 international, moved to Aberdeen as a teenager having come through the Everton youth academy.
“I lived in England for 5 or 6 years prior to moving to Scotland so I would say I grew up in Britain.”
He made two appearances in Aberdeen’s first team in 2021, and although his time at Pittodrie ended after five years, he met his partner during his time in Aberdeen and he has continued to play his football here in the Championship and League 1 with spells at Arbroath, Cove Rangers, Hamilton Accies and Alloa Athletic.
Miko has signed a 12 month deal with Elgin City, with an option for a further 12 months.
“The gaffer got in touch with my agent saying that they were interested and he was obviously very keen to bring me here. He presented how I’d fit Elgin, what the club is about and what the objectives are.
“He was very impressive from the get-go. The back and forth between myself, my agent and the gaffer was very straightforward and I think all parties enjoyed that. We were all keen to get it done.
