Match Report

Elgin City have qualified for the knockout phase of the KDM Evolution Trophy after a 2-2 draw with a young Aberdeen side.

However, City were made to work for the draw against an excellent young Dons side.

City got off to a great start when Ryan Sargent fired a left foot shoot through the legs of Conner Douglas in the 10th minute, for his fourth goal in three games.

However, Aberdeen hit back inside four minutes and it was Elgin lad Joseph Teasdale who curled in a great effort into the net.

The Dons were on top and Teasdale tapped in from close range in the 21st minute to make it 2-1.

And Tom McHale pulled off a great save with his feet to deny the striker a hat-trick before half-time.

Elgin made two changes at the break and came more into the game but could not find an equaliser.

Sargent had a goal disallowed after he netted with a towering header, but the referee blew for an infringement on the goalkeeper by another City player.

They had to rely on sub Kane Hester who showed composure to knock the ball over keeper Conner Douglas in the 89th minute.

Elgin pushed for a winner but Aberdeen remained strong in the closing stages.

Elgin City Football Club confirm the departure of Ryan Sargent to Fraserburgh FC, subject to SFA approval.

Ryan had informed the club that he wouldn’t be able to commit to another season in the SPFL due to the increasing time commitments involved in running his own business and as a result expressed a desire to return to the HFL and ultimately his home town club.

The club have respected Ryan’s wishes and reluctantly agreed to a deal with Fraserburgh FC.

Ryan said, I would like to thank all the supporters, staff, and everyone associated with the club for making me feel so welcome from the day I arrived.
This was not an easy decision to make. However, I have decided that, due to the amount of travel involved and wanting to focus on my work career and other aspects of my life, it is the right time for me to move on.
I have had an incredible two years at Elgin and cannot thank my teammates, coaches, and staff enough for making my time at the club so enjoyable.
I wish everyone at the club nothing but success for the future.

Our manager Stefan added, It is unfortunate that we say goodbye to Ryan but it is not something Ryan has done for football reasons, but for his life and business. We approached Ryan to sign a new contract as a first action of the new season, he told us this is something he would love to do, but could not commit to it due to the hours he has to sacrifice for his growing business. In light of this it is best for the club and Ryan to part ways, and wish each other all the very best for the future.
I have a great personal relationship with Ryan , he has ran his heart out for us and the club. Ultimately going into the season we need players that are fully committed to Elgin city and this allows us to reinvest into the squad, while providing Ryan and his family with a move that fits best for them. We wish Ryan well and look forward to welcoming another goal scorer in black and white to the club shortly.

Everyone at the club wishes Ryan all the very best for the future and thank him for his excellent service to our club.
